When I returned to work after taking the day off for my birthday, a lovely cake awaited me. My coworkers bought it from the bakery/cafe across the street in the Arcade, Johanssons. The place is run by Johnson and Wales culinary students and has a variety of baked goods and sandwiches. The prices are low and the quality is decent. Most of the baked goods don't win a prize for presentation, but they are always sweet and sinful. As was the case with my lemon cake:
This was such a great indulgence. I don't like chocolate cake nearly as much as white- so this was right up my alley. The lemon was tart and refreshing and necessary- the icing was so, so sweet! I'm not sure what the little crumbs are on the outside, but I liked their texture. They tasted a little like stale graham crackers.
This cake ended the birthday treats but completed my great birthday!
